Sonomi Tanaka, MA, RP
I am a therapist passionate about working with children, youth, their families and individual adult clients to help them meet their greatest potentials. I have seven years of experience working in art therapy with children and adults. I engage clients using a combination of art and play in order to maximize insight and articulation of each person’s unique experiences.
I am a graduate from Concordia University’s Art Therapy master’s program and a Registered Psychotherapist with the College of Registered Psychotherapists of Ontario. Currently, I am working towards a certification in Play Therapy with the Canadian Association of Child and Play Therapy. My clinical interests are in mindfulness, playful Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, family systems, attachment and trauma theory.
In my work I provide systemic assessments that look at the client’s life as a whole and collaborate with both children, youth, parents and schools to find the best plan of treatment for the client. Through training and client relationships, I have gained a deep understanding of how to work with a range of presenting challenges with compassion in order to build stronger, more attuned bonds to self and others.
