Arterie Member Wanted (Burlington)

The Arterie is a collective of Registered Psychotherapists and Art Therapists serving individuals, and groups of all ages in private practice with three locations: Burlington, Mississauga and Toronto, Ontario. People can be self-referred or referred by professionals for psychotherapy and art therapy to treat a range of problems including mood, anxiety, behaviour, and problems with relationships.

The Arterie Burlington location is recruiting an experienced clinician to join our Arterie team in order to increase availability of individual and group therapy for children, adolescents and adults. We offer longer term (6 mos-1 year) individual therapy. Shorter term group therapy is also provided. Services will be delivered at our Burlington, ON location. Furnished office and group space provided.

Registered Psychotherapists Sarah Brodie & Claudia Corradetti have extensive experience working in children’s mental health, and have been operating in private practice since 2005. We practice insight-oriented psychotherapy in the context of human development and creativity. We are both teachers at the Toronto Art Therapy Institute (TATI) in the distance and in-class program.

At The Arterie, we create transformative connections with the people we serve - sometimes art comes with, sometimes it's just the art of therapy. We approach our relationships and partnerships with our team members with the same respect and care. We take a holistic approach, considering the child and family as a whole and working in partnership within a wider team. Our interests align in that we take interest in issues of contemporary child and parenting; trying to synthesize what our work is telling us about raising a child and being a parent, as well as being a person.

The nature of our work involves us thinking about where someone is at in their life, what part of their story began which way of coping, all within the context of human development. Sometimes an obstacle, inside or outside of ourselves, is not going to change. In these cases, we have to be creative to find a unique solution that becomes as invisible as walking or breathing. It takes as much practice as re/discovery, and that’s why true healing of the inner world is longer term work. We are patient for things to take hold organically.

It must be known that even though we do serious work, we like to laugh. And we like to teach and talk. But, we also like to grow. So we are expanding!

Our ideal candidate:

  • 5 years + work experience in treatment of children, adolescents, and adults

  • 2-3 days a week (with possibility of extension)

  • Must be a registered professional who is licensed to perform the act of psychotherapy (e.g. RP, RSW, MD Psychotherapist)

  • Professional liability insurance required

  • Specific training in children’s mental health (play therapy, art therapy, child development)

  • A solid understanding family dynamics and working with parents/caregivers

  • Mature case management skills

  • Fluent in discussing clinical transference and countertransference, as well as participating in peer supervision.
